Trailing yield divides the last twelve months of dividends actually paid by today's price. It's fact, but it's old news: it can include a one-off, or miss a raise announced last week. Forward yield divides the next twelve months by today's price, so it's an estimate — either the company's current dividend scaled up to a year, or an analyst consensus of what it will pay.
The app's own income figures look back. Annual Dividend, yield on cost and your income target's progress are all built from the dividends booked against your holdings over the last twelve months, so a new holding reads low until it has a year behind it. The yield shown for each share you hold and in the screener, and the estimate for a holding's next declared payment, look forward, using the data feed's forward rate — the current dividend annualised, not an analyst forecast. Funds and ETFs have no forward rate in the feed, so their yield looks back twelve months instead and is marked TTM. All of these refresh daily.
Same share, same morning, two honest numbers. One looks back, one looks ahead.
