IN PLAIN ENGLISH
Stocks come with a calculated fair value. Nothing else you own does, so for those you set the figure yourself, and the Fair Value Discounts widget shows how far today's value sits from it. It is your estimate, not ours, and not advice.
FULL DEFINITION
Your own estimate of what a holding outside the stock market — crypto, a precious-metal holding, a collectible card, property, a pension, a bond or another asset — should be worth, typed in on the Portfolio page.
EXAMPLE
You think your gold coins are worth £1,000 as a whole holding; they're worth £900 at today's price. The gap is +£100, or +11.1% of today's value, so the widget lists them as a discount.
HOW IT'S CALCULATED
Gap = your fair value − value today; Gap % = gap ÷ value today × 100; a row is a Discount when your fair value is above value today. Both figures are for the whole holding (all the copies, the full weight, the entire property), not one unit. Value today is the row's value on the Portfolio page — for property, the value you entered before its mortgage. A row with no estimate, or not priced yet, shows No Data rather than a gap. An estimate typed in under a different currency to your portfolio currency is flagged and not compared; it isn't converted at today's exchange rate. Stocks are not part of this: they use the discounted-cash-flow figure (see Fair Value (Discounted Cash Flow)).
