Estimated Dividends

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

Stacked bar chart of projected dividends by month.

WHY IT HELPS

Shows income seasonality and which holdings drive each month.

HOW IT'S CALCULATED

Each bar sums per-holding estimates for the month the cash is expected, times the shares you hold now; the total is the sum of the holdings for that month. A holding's estimate repeats each dividend it paid in the last twelve months a year on. A dividend already declared or gone ex is placed as it stands instead, the next declared one estimated as the forward annual rate split evenly across last year's number of payments. Payments sit in their payment month: the declared payment date where the data feed has one, otherwise 30 days after the ex-dividend date for London listings, 15 for US ones, and the ex-date itself elsewhere. Clear-cut specials aren't repeated: an extra payment at least 1.5ร— anything paid in the previous two years is dropped, and a payment at least 3ร— the same payment in each of the previous three years is repeated at last year's amount.
